Tata Tiago EV Named As India’s Cheapest Electric Car: Earlier this month, to mark the 2022 World EV Day, Tata Motors announced its plans to introduce a fully electric version of the Tiago compact hatchback. Tata Tiago EV is all set to be officially launched on 28th September.

Upon arrival, the new Tata EV will be positioned below the Tigor EV in the company’s associated electric line-up, which also means that it could be among the cheapest EVs in India. With the Mahindra e-Verito no longer available, the Tigor EV is currently the most affordable four-wheeler EV in the country, priced from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.64 lakh (ex-showroom).

However, the Tiago EV is expected to share the powertrain with the Tigor EV along with its platform. The electric sedan uses a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to power its permanent magnet synchronous motor. The electric motor produces 74.7 PS of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

It remains to be seen whether Tata will take a decision on installing a slightly smaller battery on the Tiago EV to keep the price under check. The Tigor EV offers an ARAI-certified 306 km range on a single full charge, and the upcoming Tiago EV could have more or less a similar range.

Talking about the styling, the design of the Tiago EV will look similar to the regular Tiago, although it can be made slightly different with some changes. Like the Tigor EV, the Tiago EV is also expected to get blue accents on both the outside and inside along with EV badging on the fenders and tailgate.
