Islamabad. An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 struck late at night 303 km northwest of Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. There have been many devastating earthquakes in northwestern Pakistan. One of them came to Balakot in 2005. The entire area was devastated by this devastating earthquake. To the survivors, the government of Pakistan had assured to give plots to build new houses. Even after 17 years, this case is still pending. People protested on Monday against the ongoing delay in land allotment. After the earthquake in Balakot, the survivors have been kept in temporary housing. People expressed dissatisfaction with these temporary shelters and said they were shifted after the deadly disaster but so far the necessary facilities were not provided.

Pakistan: 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Balochistan, 80 houses collapsed, 200 families homeless

The Pakistani government has consistently failed to address the plight of displaced families. Hence, the angry mob said their protest would not end until proper housing facilities were provided. Addressing the crowd, Tehreek-e-New Balakot city president Mian Ashraf said that we are tired of living in small temporary shelters since the displacement of the 2005 earthquake, but both the federal and provincial governments are indifferent to our grief. This is evident from his non-development of New Balakot town for the last 17 years.
