The Pakistan team suffered a major setback ahead of their crucial game against South Africa. The team’s veteran batsman Fakhar Zaman has been absent from the 2022 T20 World Cup due to injury. In his place, Pakistan included Mohammad Haris in the squad. However, it remains to be seen whether Haris will secure a place in the playing XI.
Fakhar Zaman was already injured. It didn’t fit perfectly. However, despite this, he was included in the playing XI in the match against the Netherlands and he also scored 20 points from 16 balls. It looked like Fakhar Zaman would also play in the upcoming matches but due to injury he is now out.
ICC approves replacement of Fakhar Zaman
After getting approval from the ICC technical committee, Mohammad Haris was included in the Pakistani team in place of Fakhar Zaman. The ICC said in a statement,
The Technical Committee for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup event has approved the replacement of Mohammad Haris in the Pakistan squad in place of Fakhar Zaman. If a player is to be officially included in the squad, approval from the event’s Technical Committee must be taken prior to this.
The big match between Pakistan and South Africa will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday. Prior to the match, the Pakistani team doctor provided important information to the press, in which he stated that the team did not want to take the risk of facing Fakhar Zaman in the upcoming match. Although he hasn’t suffered any kind of injury yet, he hasn’t been able to fully recover from his knee injury. He will therefore have to miss the match against South Africa.
