Australia recorded a 42 run victory against Ireland in the 31st match of the T20 World Cup 2022. Playing first, the Australian team scored 179/5 in 20 overs, in response the Irish team a was carried for 137 in the 19th on itself. Australia captain Aaron Finch was voted player of the match for his brilliant innings.
After winning the toss, Ireland called Australia at bat and their call was proven correct. Australian fly-half David Warner then scored 8 after scoring just 3 runs. From there, captain Aaron Finch shared a half-century partnership with Mitchell Marsh to make it 60 in eight overs. At ninth over, Marsh was fired by Barry McCarthy and his innings ended for 28 runs. Maxwell was fired for 84 after scoring 13 points. Finch was backed up by Marcus Stoinis and both hit quick and added 70 runs on just 36 balls. Finch went 63 runs on 44 balls with five fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Stoinis scored 35 runs on 25 balls. In the end, Tim David went unbeaten in 15 and Matthew Wade scored 7. Irish bowler Barry McCarthy won three wickets.
Chasing the goal, Ireland got off to a terrible start. Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling were dismissed for 6 and 11 respectively. A few more wickets fell from here. Harry Tector was led by Glenn Maxwell on a private score of 6. Mitchell Starc didn’t even give Curtis Kaempfer and George Dockrell a chance to open an account. This way the team had lost their 5 wickets until the score was 25. From there Lorcan Tucker and Gareth Delany tried to manage the innings and took the score to 68. Delaney was dismissed after scoring 14 runs . Mark Adair supported Tucker for a while, but he too continued after scoring 11 points. From there, Tucker struggled alone from one end and went undefeated on 71 of 48 balls with help from nine fours and six. Four bowlers took two wickets each for Australia.
With this win, Australia move to second place in their group with five points and their next game is against Afghanistan, in which the team has a better chance of winning. On the other hand, England have to play their two matches against New Zealand and Sri Lanka, which are not going to be easy at all. In such a situation, the way forward for them with three points is not easy.
