In the 32nd game of the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by 6 wickets and were eliminated from the tournament. Going first, Afghanistan scored 144/8 from 20 overs, in response Sri Lanka scored 148/4 with nine to spare. Sri Lankan bowler Wanindu Hasaranga was voted Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling game.
Afghanistan won the toss and decided to strike first. The first pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Usman Ghani added 42 runs for the first wicket on the power play. On the first ball after the power play, Gurbaz fell victim to Lahiru Kumara and he was dismissed for 28 points. Ghani also went on to score 27 points from the 68 score. Ibrahim Zadran scored 22 points and Najibullah Zadran scored 18 points. Captain Mohammad Nabi was also only able to contribute 13 runs. The team batsmen teeed off but no one was able to play a big inning. For this reason, Afghanistan could not go ahead with a difficult score. Wanindu Hasaranga played brilliantly for Sri Lanka and took three wickets for 13 runs. Lahiru Kumara has also had two hits to his credit.

Second flyhalf Kusal Mendis also fell victim to Rashid Khan’s innings of 27 runs on 25 balls. From there, there was a half-century partnership between Dhananjay de Silva and Charith Aslanka and the two took the score to 100. Aslanka returned to the clubhouse after scoring 19 points. Bhanuka Rajapaksa had an 18-point run. De Silva stayed until the end and only returned after giving his team the victory. He played an unbeaten 66 runs on 42 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.
