Ahead of the festive season, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 4 percent for Central Government employees and pensioners with effect from July 1, 2022.

Announcing the decisions of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced, “After the latest amendment, 38 percent dearness allowance of basic salary/pension will be given to the employees and pensioners belonging to the central government to compensate for the rising prices. “CCEA).

He said that Rs 12,852 crore has been allocated by the government.

The Dearness Allowance was last brought into effect from January 1, 2022, in March, keeping in mind the 7th Pay Commission.

With this increase, the dearness allowance has increased by 3 percent in March as compared to the previous 31 percent. This increase related to dearness allowance was in accordance with the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

Thakur said that the Cabinet has approved the proposal for redevelopment involving three major railway stations of Indian Railways – New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and CSMT, Mumbai.

He said that the cabinet has also decided to extend the PMGKAY (Free Ration) scheme for the next three months.

Thakur said, “The scheme of giving 5 kg of wheat and rice-free to 80 crores poor every month, which was to end on Friday, will now continue till December 31, 2022.”

He said that with an additional expenditure of about Rs 44,762 crore for the latest expansion, the total expenditure of PMGKAY for all the phases would come to about Rs 3.91 lakh crore.

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) was launched in April 2020 to help the poor, whose livelihoods were put on hold due to the nationwide lockdown aimed at containing the spread of the coronavirus.
